Does anyone fancy us for this, can't say I'm expecting too much, hope I'm wrong.

Need a win to be in top six into NY, which would be an amazing achievement given recent issues. Man U will thump Burnley so only 3 points will do.

2-3 to the Hammers, Antonio, Benrahma and Soucek!

Re: ⚽ Watford v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Watching the Sky stats last night, three West Ham players are top of the stats in the league;
Interceptions - Rice
Pressures- Fornals
Distance covered - Soucek

Soucek is covering masses of ground, probably covering for Rice going forward and whatever other attacking or defensive player who has gone missing.
Watford have trained once in a couple of weeks. If we cannot get a result today we are in big trouble. Watford shouldnt be underestimated. They are decent under Ranieri and at home but this is where we need to show our quality on the ball. Rice a huge miss today but he did look tired.

Watford 5/2 to win? I’ve never bet against us before but that is tempting.

Re: ⚽ Watford v West Ham - Official Match Thread
FCJ - Soucek has always done that, here before this season and at Prague. Has nothing to do with Rice

Yep, think we could defo win.Law of average says we are due a performance and I think we have a good record there. Watford are Watford, not Real Madrid, so of course we can win. But, if we do lose I won't be blaming referee's, var, injuries, fatigue, too many mince pies etc, like many on here do.

Manuel

Yep a win would be lovely, think we could all do with a mood booster ;-)

Yes we've been shit and got what we've deserved in most cases, doesn't mean it wouldn't be nice to see some competent officiating though, maybe a hope too much.

Agreed Manuel, we are due a performance and a win.

Manuel,

If we had Liverpool, Chelsea, or Man City's squad, then I'd make you 100% right.

I also understand where you're coming from in so far as having the attitude of 'don't use excuses, just focus on ourselves to get things right' that is a good trait to have.

But, the harsh reality is, we're not as good as we'd like to be , therefore we need la lot more things to go in our favour, than the likes of the bigger clubs.

So the injuries, dodgy decisions, hit us harder than the bigger clubs. Chuck in a slice of self destruction (bad management) and unfortunately, we go from doing really well, to not very well, a lot quicker than the bigger teams.

I'll say it again, where we finish this season, for me, will be decided on what happens this January window - it was always going to be the case.

Re: ⚽ Watford v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Last season, we had to overcheìve to reach 6th.

Liverpool, massively underacheived and finished 4th. Having played a lot more games than us,too.

That's where we are.

Re: ⚽ Watford v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Sum - Sure, you need a slice of luck in all walks of life, of course it helps. As for injuries, the reality is we only have 3 first team players injured. Granted they are all in defense, but it's not that many and no excuse at all for poor forward play, loose passing poor finishing, final ball, etc, and surely Dawson and Diop are good enough to compete with Watford's front line.

With regards to this game, Manuel - you're right.

I'm speaking more generally.

This the way I see it. We've been treated to a little bit of success ( by our standards) and we don't want to see it go, and we're scared it's going to turn to shit.

I'd wait to see what the January window brings.

My feelings, thoughts, expectations will be governed by that.

Look, I feel every negative, angry thought everyone feels on here.

I just try to focus as much on positive as possible - otherwise I'd drive myself fucking mental.

Re: ⚽ Watford v West Ham - Official Match Thread
It's actually a big game today as if we lose again to a bottom half side then there really is going to be an argument that the wheels really have come off and you can't call it a blip any longer, and as you say it's then over to the window to see what happens then and it will impact the second half of the season in a big way, either way, no doubt.

I have to admit, I'm positive about the January window - but i have to keep telling myself that.

In other words, I don't trust the board to come up trumps.

Re: ⚽ Watford v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Have to admit not the slightest bit confident about today I’ll be very disappointed if masuaku gets on the pitch in any way
Hopefully Antonio and Benny getting a goal will give them a lift as they are both confidence players both will need to turn up as I can’t see us keeping a clean sheet with so many second string defenders that clearly not good enough.
With Rice out Soucek needs to find his fucking shooting boots and start scoring because without goals he’s a very average player
Also be nice to get a couple of decisions

Re: ⚽ Watford v West Ham - Official Match Thread
For me, there are two positives, to Rice being suspended.

He gets a slight rest and Soucek could be played further forward.

Of course, the reality will probably be that he'll have do twice as much running/defensive work, covering for Noble.

Put Kral in for fuck sake. It'll a be a lot easier for him, having Soucek beside him, Shirley?

Meerkat 2:49 Tue Dec 28
Re: ⚽ Watford v West Ham - Official Match Thread
If Noble starts instead of Kral then Moyes has completely lost the plot .
Soucek will need energy beside him .

Mex Martillo 2:52 Tue Dec 28
Re: ⚽ Watford v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Not sure no Rice will mean Soucek has more opportunity to go forward. Might be told to stay back. I wouldn't mind seeing Lanzini try defensive midfield again.
And don't call me Shirley!

Mex Martillo 2:53 Tue Dec 28
Re: ⚽ Watford v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Meerkat, I wouldn't be surprised if Moyes starts Noble and Masuaku 😱😱
